Combining polynomial chaos expansions and genetic algorithm for the coupling of electrophysiological models

The number of computational models in cardiac research has grown over the last decades. Every year new models with di erent assumptions appear in the literature dealing with di erences in interspecies cardiac properties. Generally, these new models update the physiological knowledge using new equations which reect better the molecular basis of process. New equations require the fi tting of parameters to previously known experimental data or even, in some cases, simulated data. This work studies and proposes a new method of parameter adjustment based on Polynomial Chaos and Genetic Algorithm to nd the best values for the parameters upon changes in the formulation of ionic channels. It minimizes the search space and the computational cost combining it with a Sensitivity Analysis. We use the analysis of di ferent models of L-type calcium channels to see that by reducing the number of parameters, the quality of the Genetic Algorithm dramatically improves. In addition, we test whether the use of the Polynomial Chaos Expansions improves the process of the Genetic Algorithm search. We conclude that it reduces the Genetic Algorithm execution in an order of 103 times in the case studied here, maintaining the quality of the results. We conclude that polynomial chaos expansions can improve and reduce the cost of parameter adjustment in the development of new models.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Bayesian calibration, validation and uncertainty quantification for predictive modelling of tumour growth: a tutorial

    Get PDF
In this work we present a pedagogical tumour growth example, in which we apply calibration and validation techniques to an uncertain, Gompertzian model of tumour spheroid growth. The key contribution of this article is the discussion and application of these methods (that are not commonly employed in the field of cancer modelling) in the context of a simple model, whose deterministic analogue is widely known within the community. In the course of the example we calibrate the model against experimental data that is subject to measurement errors, and then validate the resulting uncertain model predictions. We then analyse the sensitivity of the model predictions to the underlying measurement model. Finally, we propose an elementary learning approach for tuning a threshold parameter in the validation procedure in order to maximize predictive accuracy of our validated model

This thesis examines about the phenomenon of ganguro fashion that appeared in Japan early 2000. Ganguro is the one of Japanese street fashion which was widely spread among the young people in Japan. This reaserch aims to find out the factors of interest ganguro style and postmodernism elements in ganguro, as well as its influence on other Japanese popular culture products. This research uses the postmodernism aprroach. This research uses qualitative methods and descriptive to explain and describe the ganguro phenomenon. This thesis consist of explanation about description, history, life style, the reason young people had come to be interested in ganguro, and postmodernism aspect in ganguro style. As the result of the research, it is clear that the ganguro style were widely spread among the younger generation in Japan because its effect of showing and the influence of hip-hop music performed by black singers. Ganguro contains postmodernism element that are discontent, rebellion, and changes. These things can be seen through the fashion style and ganguro gals lifestyle. Ganguro has a huge influence on other popular culture products such as fashion, anime, manga, and video games. Keyword: Posmodernism, fashion, gangur

This graduation paper presents the existence of shops which sell anime and tokusatsu character figure toys in Yogyakarta. The aim of this graduation paper writing is to explain the efforts made by the shops owners in maintaining the existence of the shops in Yogyakarta from 2007 to 2012. In this paper, the researcher also presents some factors that support the shops existence until 2012. The researcher uses Talcott Parsons model called the unit act to analyze the efforts and the factors that support the shops existence. It is a model that says when someone is doing somethin

This final task Iwo Jima The Last Fortress At Pacific War December 1941 August1945 is about war between the United States and Japan to conquer the Iwo Jima. In this final task tell about how the condition of Iwo Jima at the war, before and after it. In this research, method that writer use is the collection of data from books, articles, and the internet, that have a relation with the theme of the final task. The result of this research show us how is the condition and how the war to conquer the Iwo Jima was so hard

General Introduction to Polynomial Chaos and Collocation Methods

    No full text
International audienceIn this chapter, the basic principles of two methodologies for uncertainty quantification (UQ) are discussed, namely the polynomial chaos method and the collocation method. UQ deals with the propagation of uncertainties through complex numerical models, and in the present context of the UMRIDA project, mostly computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes. The focus is on non-intrusive methods implying that the model does not require any changes and can be used as a black box
